What is Corporate Research?
Corporate research is a relative new form of information source for investors and followers of listed companies.
Unlike the investment research of brokers and investment banks it does not provide a "one-size fits all" recommendation.
The purpose of quality corporate research is to provide an objective assessment of the company's prospects, its competitive environment and a detailed analysis of its potential earnings.
This should not be confused with a recommendation or financial advice. Corporate research is one of many sources of information and opinion that investors and their advisors may consider regarding the suitability of an investment to the specific situation of the investor.
Unlike many brokers and investment banks we firmly believe that advice or a recommendation must be specific to the financial, tax and personal situation and goals of the investor.
Our corporate research is designed to present the opinion of Objective's analysts and what they believe to be the objective prospects of the highlighted company. Where we may make reference to estimates of value or relative value of a specific company, these are to illustrate how the company may be viewed using standard analysis tools assuming an "average" investor.
You should always bare in mind that these are opinions. There is no guarantee that these estimates are reliable or will eventuate.
Whether this makes an individual stock an appropriate investment for a specific investor is a matter that they and their advisors should consider in light of their own situation. In the case of the UK, investors should seek advice specific to their situation and investment requirements from a person authorized under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.
What good corporate research does:
- provide an objective assessment of the company, its industry and competitive position;
- an objective estimate of the company's potential earnings;
- a view on how markets have historically value similar companies.
What corporate research does not do:
- recommend that the stock be bought or sold;
- provide financial advice.
What should I look for in a corporate research provider:
- A focus on corporate research. Many providers also offer the companies they cover financial PR or corporate advisory services. There is always the suspicion that this clouds their work.
How do you maintain objectivity?
While our detailed corporate research is sponsored by the companies we cover, it is always written on behalf of our readers. All our analysts adhere to a strict policy of objectivity and neither Objective Capital nor the analyst are permitted to trade in the shares of companies we provide coverage of.
